As our Sr.
Research Scientist, you will be involved in all aspects of the innovation projects / programs including proposing ideas, assessing ideas, preparing preliminary business cases, and de-risking technical capabilities for commercialization.
You also will routinely interact with new product development (NPD), marketing, sales, vendors, and manufacturing to identify and provide innovative technical solutions for the business needs related to mineral product, nonwoven, wood, metal, or composite / translucent product / materials.

What you ll be doing:

  • Effectively identify / create / develop innovative ideas which fit into business strategy, customer needs, and potentially lead to high business value.
  • Work with others to estimate potential market size with the proposed idea.
  • Design / plan / develop technical solutions, analyze data, recommend viable solutions, interpret and report results.
  • Rapidly determine innovative solution / approach to address business needs.
  • Proactively interact and collaborate with co-workers, manufacturing plants, and the business, as necessary, for the duty of the responsibilities to ensure high-quality transfer of technology for execution
  • Support execution phase work as needed to ensure capability of new product or process
  • Provide coaching on technical knowledge or technical issues to both peers and associate investigators.
  • Develop intellectual property for key innovations.
  • Effectively build networks with external groups companies, universities, consortiums, etc--to understand business relevant new technologies.
  • Participate in pertinent technical conferences, identify business opportunities, and share key learnings with the organization as required by business needs.
  • Adhere to AWI standard work processes including safety, stage-gates, executive and senior leader updates, as well as provide data to track innovation generation/output

What will make you successful:

  • Bachelor's in Material Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • 5
    years industrial work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Rich experience in project management including traditional and preferable Agile methodology.
  • Self-starter / motivated, action / result oriented, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellence in creativity, business acumen, and collaboration.
  • Knowledge or experience in nonwoven, wood, metal, composite / translucent material / product or lamination is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft tool suite & other relevant digital tools.


Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Material Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
