Dispatch Operator

Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in White Pine County, Nevada. Its workforce comes from Ely, Eureka, Elko, and Spring Creek area. It is the newest mine in Kinross' portfolio aquired in January 2016. Nevada is one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. The Bald Mountain Vantage Complex Project has commenced production, and the first gold bar was poured in June 2019.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Dispatch Supervisor and will work with Operations Supervisors to achieve daily tonnage targets. Successful candidates will work as Dispatch Operators on a rotating shift with assigned Mine Operations crew. Tasks include carrying out a full range of functions associated with a Dispatch Fleet Management System, working closely with the Maintenance crew by communicating equipment needs, and helping Mine Operations meet daily tonnage targets in support of the mine plan. The successful candidate will act with professionalism and integrity as a representative of Kinross.

Essential Functions

  • Work in office environment for 12.5 hrs rotating shifts
  • Assign crew and equipment to conduct tasks to safely achieve mine production goals
  • Monitor crew activity during shift to ensure safe and efficient production
  • Manage Dispatch system to ensure optimal use of available resources
  • Demonstrate the willingness to learn and apply procedures applicable to position
  • Understands the mining process and communicate with the various departments as needed
  • Knowledge of crew members and their abilities
  • Well versed on equipment and equipment operations
  • Must be able to help troubleshoot equipment problems and guide operators over the radio in a professional manner.
  • Work with Radio Technicians to troubleshoot all reported problems with the system or hardware installed on equipment
  • Train employees as needed and assigned to operate the Dispatch system.
  • Manage the phone, radio, and computer duties in Dispatch such as:

- Understand code blue procedures and responsibilities
- Lime, fuel and other deliveries
- Monitor pit activities using video feed
- Manage blending optimization at leach pads
- Manage tire temperatures/pressures using tire monitoring system
- Monitor Operator Alertness System

  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Develop understanding of Dispatch system and capable of running the system
  • Must be able to handle basic optimization, upset management, and communicate in a timely manner
  • Request assistance from supervision/management based on event when required
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.

Education and Experience

  • Required:
    Minimum 1 year experience working for a mining operation
  • Required:
    possess high school diploma or equivalent
  • Required:
    be able to perform basic math calculations
  • Required:
    possess the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Required:
    have a basic understanding of the open pit, heap leach mining process
  • Has moderate abilities using basic Window s computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.) and can navigate through network drives to access folders
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated history of working with others, displaying a positive attitude, and working as part of a team
  • Must be able to apply good verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills in order to efficiently and professionally interact with multiple departments across the site.

  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
